The problem: Trivia buffs across New York City faced a frustrating challenge: finding up-to-date, comprehensive information on trivia nights throughout the city. Existing listings were often incomplete, outdated, or scattered across unreliable sources.

The solution:

I created NYC Trivia List to centralize and streamline the process of finding the perfect trivia night.

  • Robust backend: The site runs on Next.js for reliable performance, integrated with Sanity CMS for straightforward content management.
  • Focus on user experience: TailwindCSS ensures a stylish, responsive design tailored to finding trivia quickly. Day, borough, and neighborhood filters alongside an interactive Leaflet map help users pinpoint their ideal trivia spot in just a few clicks.
  • Automated updates: Custom Python cron jobs proactively crawl trivia hosts' websites, seeking changes to schedules and venues.
  • Community driven: A contact form enables site visitors to submit corrections and suggest new venues.

Technical highlights

  • Next.js expertise: Delivered a fast, SEO-friendly, and easily maintainable web application.
  • CMS integration: Demonstrated fluency in integrating Sanity CMS for non-technical content management.
  • Mapping solutions: Seamlessly incorporated Leaflet for interactive map displays.
  • Proactive automation: Used Python cron jobs to reduce manual tasks and ensure information stays reliable.

Project impact: NYC Trivia List makes it a breeze for New Yorkers to find fun, brain-tickling trivia nights across the city.
